Intro to Yoga Course
Welcome to the Intro to Yoga Course at Rising Sun Yoga. Intro to Yoga is designed to give you all the tools necessary to develop a life-long, healthy, rewarding yoga practice. The 4-week Course now includes a Bonus 5th Class to ease your transition into one of our Foundational, Gentle, or Hatha Yoga classes.
In the Intro to Yoga Course you will be taught the fundamentals of proper alignment in key poses to help you develop a safe, sustainable practice. Instruction will include basic poses, breathing techniques, alignment principles, proper movement, philosophy, meditation, sound, and yoga terminology — everything you need to feel confident in continuing your yoga practice at Rising Sun Yoga!
Intro to Yoga Includes:
- Four 75-minute Intro to Yoga classes, one per week
- Bonus 5th Class! In the week following the end of your Intro Series, you may attend a yoga class at Rising Sun Yoga for no additional cost. This bonus class is only available during this 5th week.
Pre-registration for Intro to Yoga is required. Payment of $60 must be received prior to the first class. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer refunds, extensions or trades. Unused classes will be forfeited.
Attendance at every class is highly recommended for you to gain the full benefits of the course. (If you are interested in enhancing your yoga instruction one-on-one with one of our instructors, private sessions may be scheduled for an additional fee. Contact the studio for more information.)
To further assist your transition into our other class offerings, students new to Rising Sun Yoga who complete all 4 classes of the Intro to Yoga Course are eligible for the 2-Week Unlimited or 30 Day Unlimited Class Passes!
Michael Sutton has over 40 years experience teaching the principles and mechanics of mind/body connection through martial arts, yoga, and meditation. He is a yoga teacher, martial artist, and spiritual activist. He is also the founder and director of Rising Sun Yoga. His passion is helping others to discover their inherent individual greatness. A certified and registered Hatha and Iyengar-based yoga teacher and a karate instructor, he lives as holistically as he can - contemplating, meditating, visualizing, feeling, eating smartly, staying fit, practicing yoga, and having a healthy outlook. Michael believes that thoughts and their attendant feelings are more powerful than anything you put into, or let come out of, your Self. Those same thoughts and feelings create your beliefs.
He has had the opportunity to experience many injuries including torn ligaments and tendons, ripped muscles, broken bones, fractured ribs, sprains, strains, aches and pains, vertebral problems as a result of engaging in team sports, as well as kidney challenges. He finds the only benefit to having experienced these injuries is that he understands what others have experienced, can teach people how to move properly, help re-align and balance themselves, and assist them in regaining a healthy lifestyle. He is a proponent of functional movement and mobility and believes this can be achieved by minding the messages you receive.
He also believes that thoughts and feelings, when directed properly, can heal the physical body. He has embarked on a program of physical healing in alignment with the teachings of Dr. Joe Dispenza.
Formerly a practicing herbalist, Iridologist, and health consultant, he learned to address issues holistically and has continued his education in key health related areas, conducting research through topic-related books and as a result, has had the privilege of helping many people. He also presents health-related topics to organizations and various groups alone and either with his sister, Mary Ann Amschler, former RN and now holistic counselor or Ruth Shewan, a put-into-practice-what-you-believe type of person.
For much of his life, he studied martial arts (for 33 years) before being introduced to yoga in 1999. During some of that time, he worked in the banking and software industries for 20 years.
Michael founded Rising Sun Yoga to help people change the(ir) paradigm, bring people together in community, and create a center for education in mind, body, and spirit. His classes can be slow and even, mindful and steady, or strong and flowing. Usually his classes are a combination of all of them giving you an opportunity to explore and stretch your boundaries. He is a Yoga Alliance (YA) e-RYT 500 hour Certified Yoga Instructor.

Michael has a daughter, Sydney, who is a YA 500 hour certified yoga instructor, adventure seeker, world traveller, ski instructor, and outdoor wilderness guide.
