Frequently Asked Questions

Q.  What should I do to get started?

A.  Getting started is easy.  Just check our schedule, find a class that is right for you, dress in loose comfortable clothing, and show up a few minutes before class starts. Bring a sticky mat or we can rent you one. View hints for class preparation by clicking here.

Q.  Starting out, how often should I do yoga?

A. This will be up to your schedule, but you should a least do yoga once a week when your starting out.  We recommend twice a week to really begin to benefit from your practice.  However, yoga is meant to be a daily practice and we encourage everyone to make a little time in their day to practice in addition to their classes.

Q.  Will yoga help me to relieve stress?

A.  Everyone will benefit from yoga practice in their own way, but almost everyone finds yoga to be a natural stress reliever.

Q.  Can I lose weight doing yoga?

A.  Like anything benefits come from consistency.  A regular yoga practice will help you lose weight three ways. First yoga helps to regulate the metabolism, second long stretching of the muscles squeezes out the cellulite, and third your burning calories as you work the body. Yoga also teaches you to honor and respect your body.  You will want to be healthier and start to make choices in your eating habits that will promote weight loss.

Q.  What should I wear?

A.  You want to dress comfortably in loose fitting clothes that allow you to stretch.  Many people wear sweats or stretchy pants and that's okay.  Shorts will allow you to get the most out of your practice.  Yoga is best practiced barefoot, but socks can be worn.  The studio is normally kept warm so you'll want to keep that in mind when choosing an outfit. Clothing that allows the instructor to see if your body is properly aligned is most beneficial.  Tops with open shoulders and short or form fitting pants are best.

Q.  Can I drop into any class?

A. Yes, we offer all of our classes on a drop in basis unless otherwise noted.  If your not sure please call us. 734-282-9642.

Q.  Should I avoid yoga practice while menstruating?

A. Actually yoga can bring you benefit during your menstrual period.  However, you may want to avoid inverted poses during this time.
