Women's Group

10/08/2017 @ 05:00 pm - 06:15 pm
RSY Surya Room

We now know that high stress levels can contribute to heart disease, chronic illness and early death in women. We know too that talking through your issues is very beneficial. You may find group therapy to be intimidating at first because you may not want to share your story with strangers. But hearing from others and learning that you are not alone and that others have similar problems and struggles helps you gain perspective which in turn helps you cope better.

You will learn that a women's group is a loving, supportive environment where honesty is encouraged and accepted. You will find strength and empowerment by helping each other and in receiving help. It all contributes to lowered stress. What most women love about the group is the experience of having a structured and safe place to connect with others in an honest and intimate way where the social mask can be taken off.

Women realize that in spite of our differences there are many similarities too. The more women participate and share their struggles, the more they and the group benefits.

Come alone or bring a friend. Not only will you learn how to cope with stress, but you will make new friends too. This group is also great for new moms!

Mahiboob Vardhan is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. She received her Masters Degree in Counseling and Education from Canisus College. Because of life experiences, she has become a very giving and spiritual person taking great joy in helping others. When in her 20s, she developed a stress-induced auto-immune disorder making her very sick. She became even more stressed when told that there was almost no possibility of having children. Her stress was making her sicker and sicker.

So, she changed her mind and began to look at herself and life differently. She became a strong believer in the power of the mind to heal the body. She decided to heal her body using clay. With a passion for sculpting, something that comes naturally to Mahiboob, she learned how helpful this tool could be.

Today, she is blessed with two incredible children and a new life. Looking back at what she has done for herself and how she did it, she has decided to use her clay experience along with her counseling degree to help others heal their mind and body.
