Foundational Yoga

01/19/2017 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
RSY Surya Room

You've heard so much about yoga. You know it's supposed to be great for you - make you fit, flexible, focused and obliterate stress. But you don't know where to start (or what it actually is). Or maybe you've done the videos, but you're not sure what you are doing is OK.

We are your beginners' oasis. We'll guide you, step-by-step, as you discover this wonderful practice. Each class may cover:

Simple breathing exercises that are common to our practice;

Foundational yoga postures and how to adapt them to your abilities and needs;

Meditation techniques to reduce stress;

How to breathe so that you may link postures together and never feel out-of-breath.

We repeat things a lot so you are sure to learn them. And, we also make time to teach you how to modify the postures to accommodate your body and its unique needs.

We accommodate everyone...those who are new and have no experience, those with little experience, those who have not done yoga in a long time, those who want a refresher, and those who love working the foundational aspects.

This is a Continuous Class (you can join in at any time).

Jill grew up in Buffalo, NY but left after completing her Master’s Degree in Social Work from SUNY Buffalo. She was blessed with the opportunity to live in Hawaii and travel in the Pacific and Asia. Her experience opened her eyes to different cultures and spiritual practices. It stirred a deep interest and desire to learn Yoga. After she left the islands, she moved to Tennessee where she took the next step in shaping and advancing her interest in Yoga. She completed her 200 hour teacher training in the spring of 2012 in Nashville, TN with the hopes of integrating it with her past work as a child and family therapist.

The newest of roles for Jill is that of a mom. She has an amazing little man, Alexander, who has been her best teacher so far. He motivates her to want to be a better person, someone he will admire and model himself after.

Jill likes to incorporate a holistic approach into her yoga practice and teachings. She works with students to connect movement with breath, providing them space to experience yoga within their own body. Her main emphasis is to help each individual find aspects of strength, balance and acceptance within their own yogic journey.
