RSY Surya Room

Designed to alleviate pregnancy related discomforts, prepare for birth, practice relaxation and breathing techniques in community with other women experiencing the physical and hormonal changes associated with pregnancy. Mothers are encouraged to return to class after birth when ready to regain strength, flexibility and relaxation. This class will carry you through your journey into motherhood with grace, and strength of soul and body.

For those who wish to bring their new baby, you are welcome to do so until the baby becomes mobile. Wearing the baby in a sling or wrap is recommended so that you can have your hands free.

This class is VERY appropriate for beginners and current yoga practitioners of all skill levels with a strong focus on the connection between you and baby. We also focus deeply on the breath which is so vital during your delivery; to positions that facilitate an easier, more comfortable birth; loosening the muscles, joints & bones used during birth. We will address any fears, strains, or aches and pains of your pregnancy and reassure you of your body’s innate ability to grace you with the miracle you are about to experience. Anytime during your pregnancy is a great time to start!

Rebecca began her love affair with yoga in 1998 while traveling through Asia. Having practiced Vinyasa and Sivananda in India, Astanga in Japan, and Bikram and Kundalini in the Caribbean, she was and is still a perpetual student of the mind/body connection. Continuing this quest, she studied the traditional Usui healing system in Japan and became a Reiki Master in 1999, Massage Therapist in 2005 and a Birth Doula in 2010. She holds a BA in Communications from Fordham University and a NYS massage license.

While pregnant with her son in 2011, Rebecca participated in a Khalsa Way Prenatal/Postnatal Teacher training with the creator and pioneer of this style of yoga, Gurmukh Kuar Khalsa, at Golden Bridge, NYC. As a dedicated practitioner of rigorous flow oriented yoga, it was difficult at first for Rebecca to appreciate the subtleties and stillness of this practice. It did not take long, however, before she realized the strength and grace of a quieter, gentler yoga and the endless possibilities and benefits of meditation. Khalsa means 'Pure' in Gurmukhi; this practice focuses on fostering and nurturing the innate, pure power of the pregnant woman by bringing clarity and fearlessness to the mind through meditation. It is a practice that has changed her life.

As a Birth Doula working in NYC, Rebecca has supported laboring mothers in hospitals, birthing centers, and in their own homes. Recently having relocated to Buffalo, she looks forward to serving the community of mothers-to-be through the modalities of massage, energy work, yoga and meditation. She is dedicated to help expecting momma's discover a deeper sense of peace and harmony within, lifting blocks of fear, doubt and old conditioning out of pregnancy and birth, as well as life.
