Women's Health Yoga

05/18/2013 @ 01:00 pm - 02:15 pm
RSY Surya Room

This is a yoga asana class designed for women at all stages of growth, from pre-pregnancy, through pregnancy, child raising years, through menopause. We will discuss related experiences at each stage, how to prepare for birthing whether natural or in a hospital, breathing and relaxation techniques, hormonal balance whether it be during PMS or menopause all the while establishing community with other women going through the same physical and emotional changes.

This class is appropriate for both beginners and current yoga practitioners of all skill levels. We focus on you which is so important and can be easily lost in the hustle & bustle of your day.

We also focus deeply on the breath (so vital during labor & delivery) to loosening the muscles, joints & bones, releasing and empowering your energy pathways and, opening your heart mind.

The movements are designed to help you relax. We move slowly in the class, so all movements are easy to learn and do. The purpose of the movements are to help you achieve a feeling, a certain state of being (relaxation, meditation, etc.) which then helps you cope with the daily stresses on your body. Some movements will challenge you, some will relax you and some will intrigue you. Everybody's experience is different!

Whether you are recovering from breast cancer, have osteopenia or osteoporosis, or any other dis-ease, you are welcome to attend this class, discuss your situation and receive support from those in attendance, and move into your poses.

(Anytime during your pregnancy is a great time to start! We have some students who have started at 37 weeks! If you cannot attend all of the classes prior to delivering or were recently made aware of these sessions, please stop in anyway and join the class. You can purchase a package of classes or pay by the class).

Jill grew up in Buffalo, NY but left after completing her Master’s Degree in Social Work from SUNY Buffalo. She was blessed with the opportunity to live in Hawaii and travel in the Pacific and Asia. Her experience opened her eyes to different cultures and spiritual practices. It stirred a deep interest and desire to learn Yoga. After she left the islands, she moved to Tennessee where she took the next step in shaping and advancing her interest in Yoga. She completed her 200 hour teacher training in the spring of 2012 in Nashville, TN with the hopes of integrating it with her past work as a child and family therapist.

The newest of roles for Jill is that of a mom. She has an amazing little man, Alexander, who has been her best teacher so far. He motivates her to want to be a better person, someone he will admire and model himself after.

Jill likes to incorporate a holistic approach into her yoga practice and teachings. She works with students to connect movement with breath, providing them space to experience yoga within their own body. Her main emphasis is to help each individual find aspects of strength, balance and acceptance within their own yogic journey.
