Mothers Day
By Sylvia Honey
*****************************************
The origin of Mothers’ Day was in 1870 after
the Civil War. Mothers, daughters, and wives came together to protest the blood
shed by loved ones and of the ‘enemy’. Their belief held that all sons
everywhere were part of our greater family.
For the following thirty years, June 2nd was
celebrated a “Mothers’ Day for Peace”. When Congress declared it a legal holiday
in 1913, it became the exploited billion dollar industry it is today and the
original purpose was lost.
Now more than ever, we need to choose a path
of “waking up” and healing our planet by the choices we make. We must become
very mindful of this interconnectedness that we share with all beings. Honor our
mothers; celebrate, eat, enjoy the day, but…take time to think about the women
of the 19th century and how each of us can contribute to peace.
Julia Ward Howe Wrote in 1870:
“Arise, then, women of this day!
Arise, all women who have hearts,
Whether our baptism be of water or of tears!
Say firmly:
“We will not have great questions decided by irrelevant
agencies. Our husbands will not come to us, reeking with carnage, for caresses,
and applause.
Our sons shall not be taken from us to unlearn
All that we have been able to teach them of charity, mercy
and patience.
We, the women of one country, will be too tender of those of
another country
To allow our sons to be trained to injure theirs.”
This year, celebrate a “Mothers’ Day for
Peace”.
Come together to end war.

Day for more information.) |

Get RAW By Renee Bronner Hribar
Eating Raw is the healthiest and simplest way I have found to feed my body
…and my soul. The point of this article is not for you to understand the acid
alkaline balance or the complete function of enzymes. It is about changing your
life in a way you may never have thought possible.
What is RAW?
Besides delicious and easy to prepare, scientifically, it is
maintaining the enzymes that are produced by nature in keeping the food below
a certain temperature (debated to be between 105 and 120 degrees). Since no
cooking, it’s RAW.
The four food groups of RAW food are: Leafy greens and vegetables, Sweet
Fruits (bananas, apples, durian, dates), Non-Sweet fruits (bell peppers,
tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers), and Fats (avocados, nuts, olives, coconuts).
Balance within these four food groups is natural and if you listen to your body
it will tell you what you need.
Why RAW?
The list of benefits to eating a RAW diet is near endless. Curing diabetes
was one of the most wonderful and exciting tales I’ve heard from going RAW for
just 30 days. Of course weight loss is a popular benefit, I personally lost 9
pounds eating 100% RAW in just 5 days. Others that I have met are able to end
long-term use of their blood pressure and cholesterol medication. Some that I
have read about cured multiple sclerosis, diverticulitis, candida, asthma, acne,
menopausal and menstrual symptoms, migraines, arthritis, hypoglycemia and the
list continues to grow as more and more people are getting the word out about
eating food in the way nature intended.
Since there is no refined, processed sugar, no dairy and no soy, wheat or
gluten in RAW food, this is a perfect way for our body to cleanse itself. When
our body is clean and getting the nutrients it needs, it can heal itself from
anything.
How to go RAW?
EASY, QUICK and DELICIOUS. In the same time it used to take me just to
prep my cooked food to then go into the oven, the RAW food is done
and ready to be enjoyed!
I can eat carrot cake for breakfast, lunch and dinner if I want. I’ve made a
RAW Black Forest Cake, Lasagna even Spicy Fries that rivals in taste to any
cooked version I’ve ever had.
Most of the recipes are so simple you only need a blender or a food
processor. Raw food is not a lot of work. If you do enjoy preparing food
you can easily create beautiful gourmet food twice a day – in minutes. Otherwise
you and stick to eating foods in their whole form with no prep time at
all!
Mixing fruits, nuts, seeds and vegetables together, without cooking them and
having something delicious like carrot cake come out in fifteen minutes seemed
impossible. I was not sure I could give up cooked food. I loved soups, burgers
and bread…and I still do. I just prepare them differently.
Instead of using Grandma’s recipes, I reference Alissa Cohen’s Living on
Live Food, and Ani Phyo’s books and video’s on www.YouTube.com. I am a
FOODIE. Anything to do with food is social to me and I love sharing. I have the
most fun at the RAW Potluck Dinners at the studio once a month. I love testing
new recipes on my fellow yoga teachers, most of whom are not RAW, but love the
taste of differently made “classics”.
RAW is NOT just plain old green lettuce with celery sticks. There is a whole
exciting, new world out there to explore through your taste buds! Fruits that I
had passed a hundred times at the market, juicy and delicious are now enjoyed by
my entire family in place of pretzels and cookies. Varieties of gorgeous green
vegetables I had never heard of are now creating dishes I bring to my family
holidays and they can’t believe it’s RAW!
Resources to GO RAW:
www.YouTube.com - just type in Raw Food, Ani Phyo, David Wolfe or Shazzi,
into the search area (top right hand corner of page) and see what you see!
www.living-foods.com/recipes/
Living Foods for Optimal Health by Brian Clement
www.alissacohen.com - the book and DVD that got me started.
Have fun and Eat well !!!!
Be Sure To Join Us Wednesday May 9th @ 7PM to learn more about Going Raw and
to sample some wonderful raw dishes. |

Responsibility does not only lie with the leaders of our
countries or with those who have been appointed or elected to do a
particular job. It lies with each of us individually. Peace, for example,
starts within each one of us. When we have inner peace, we can be at peace
with those around us. ~ Dalai

Blue Ice Pure Cod Liver Oil

Grandma knew what she was doing by giving us cod live oil. It is high
in vitamin A and D plus Omega 3 oils. The Blue Ice brand is the purist and
highest vitamin content we’ve found.
“Vitamin D may be one of the most fundamentally important
building blocks available to us for creating and sustaining vibrant health.
In addition to its classically understood role in bone formation and calcium
absorption, research has uncovered myriad roles for vitamin D, ranging from
increasing muscular coordination to preventing cancer, heart disease,
autoimmune diseases and radiation-induced tissue damage. Yet vitamin D is
also considered to be "the most toxic of all vitamins..", so don’t over do
it. (From Green Pasture’s Website) For more information visit
www.greenpasture.org and
www.westonaprice.org.
Afraid of the fishy taste, try the mint or cinnamon flavor
and fear no more.
We are also carrying Blue Ice Gold Therapeutics, a blend of high vitamin
cod liver oil-- 5000IU's vitamin A, 500IU's vitamin D -- plus 100mg of high
vitamin butter oil in each dose.
Without vitamin A & D our bodies don’t absorb minerals

Michigan Harvest
Michigan
Harvest
is a proprietary blend of
sweet cherry, blackberry, blueberry and apple chosen to maximize the ORAC* score while producing a flavor filled juice drink boost. Most high
antioxidant drinks use fruits from far away places in an attempt to maximize
antioxidant score. At Sol Resource we created
a high antioxidant drink made with fruits grown right here in the state of
Michigan. A single ounce of Michigan Harvest provides you with half of your
daily recommended antioxidant intake.
*ORAC
(Oxygen Radical
Absorption Capacity) measures the antioxidant activity of a substance.
Cherry Harvest
American Premium Blends
is
proud to present Cherry Harvest. Cherry harvest is a combination of
tart and sweet cherry blended in such a way to maximize benefits while
providing a surprisingly refreshing taste. Cherry Harvest is all natural
with no preservatives, added sugar or color. This is cherry juice the way
nature intended delicious and nutritious. Tart and sweet cherry juice are
both excellent sources of anthocyanins, a family of antioxidants that give
cherries their bright color but also may play a critically important role in
reducing inflammation, promoting joint health and reducing the symptoms of
gout and arthritis. So try an ounce of Cherry Harvest your body will thank
you for it.
Tart Cherry Harvest
Michigan is the top tart cherry producer in the United States harvesting
75% of the nation’s tart cherry crop. These cherries do not normally make it
to your local supermarket, mostly because the tart cherry crop is sent for
processing into jams, jellies, pie filling and of course tart cherry juice
concentrate. Scientific research suggests that enjoying a shot of tart
cherry juice concentrate might help defuse arthritis pain. It is this
overwhelming scientific evidence that compelled us at American Premium
Blends to create Tart Cherry Harvest, our own proprietary blend
of tart cherry juice that promotes the health benefits of tart cherry juice.
Samples are available at the studio, try a bottle the
taste is great.
