True independence and freedom can only exist in doing what's right ~ Brigham
Young
Happy Independence Day!
Yoga May Lead To Symptoms that You Are Unaware Of
Even though yoga’s popularity
has grown enormously in the past few years many people perceive a room of people
sitting cross legged meditating or pulling their leg behind their heads. If you
have practiced yoga you might agree that there is some of that going on. That
and a whole lot more. We hear of the benefits of increased strength,
flexibility, balance, improved immune system, and inner peace. This mix can lead
to symptoms that you are totally unaware of. The following is a list of twelve
Symptoms of Inner Peace that was given to me via email, (source unknown), that
you may want to watch out for.
1. A tendency to think and act spontaneously rather than from fears based on
past experiences.
2. An unmistakable ability to enjoy each moment.
3. A loss of interest in judging self.
4. A loss of interest in judging others.
5. A loss of interest in conflict.
6. A loss of interest in interpreting the actions of others.
7. A loss of ability to worry (this is a serious symptom).
8. Frequent, overwhelming episodes of appreciation.
9. Contented feelings of connectedness with others and nature.
10. Frequent attacks of smiling through the eyes of the heart.
11. Increasing susceptibility to love extended by others as well as the
uncontrollable urge to extend it.
12. An increasing tendency to let things happen.
If this list of symptoms
appeals to you I recommend that you follow the guide of Yoga Sutra I.4 which
says that yoga should be practiced for a long time, without interruption, and
with reverent devotion . In other words to attain the most from yoga we should
be committed to practice with a deep respect and love.
It was the inner peace that I received from yoga that caused me to fall in
love with the practice. Over time I developed a great respect for the practice
and the difference that yoga has made in my life sometimes goes beyond words.
Beginners frequently ask how often they should practice yoga. I always
recommend starting at least twice a week. Maybe you are at or have been at that
point now plus or minus a practice. If yoga is truly resonating with you, maybe
it is time that you consider an everyday practice. Find a way even if it is at
home and reap the rewards or your commitment. Namasté, Jim
Mankind must put an end to war, or war will put an end to mankind...War will
exist until that distant day when the conscientious objector enjoys the same
reputation and prestige that the warrior does today." -- John F. Kennedy

Grass Roots CSA Support
The Community Shared Agriculture programs
that we have allied ourselves with are now in gear and approaching full speed.
Maple Creek Farms (www.maplecreekfarm.com)
has sent it’s first shipment of organically grown fruits and vegetables and what
a splendid assortment and generous share. Members received strawberries, red and
green leaf lettuce, pea pods, kale, fresh herbs, and beets. Maple Creek Farm
doesn’t require you to actually work on the farm and delivers their food to
Rising Sun Yoga on Fridays. The food was perfectly ripe and very tasty. Shares
are still available and there is a lot of growing season left. Please contact
Maple Creek Farms if you are interested. Brochures are available here at the
studio or you can look them up online at the address given above.
Lakeplain
Prairie Organic Farm (lakeplaincsa.com) is the other CSA that we have teamed up
with. They are currently set up for working members and non
working members. I am not sure of
their availability for shares. Being part of this group you get a respect for
the amount of work necessary to produce large amounts of organically grown
crops. The reward you get from going out to the farm and working far out weighs
the return you get in locally grown organic vegetables, but you still get the
veggies. Working on the farm is hard work, but I always learn some little tid
bit of information that I can put to use in my home garden and I have a great
time. Shares have been available for over a month now and the quality and taste
is suburb. Being a part of a working farm you really get the community feeling
that goes along with this type of involvement. They plan events and meeting and
have teams that you can join to accomplish various tasks. You learn the tricks
to getting seeds to grow healthy early in the spring, soil testing, organic
means of bug control and fertilization and more. I am really enjoying being a
part of this CSA.
If you have seen the movie The Future of Foods or similar ones you understand
the importance both personally and globally of supporting organic farmers. If
not, at least it may have moved from the things you don’t even know that you
don’t know about to the you don’t know about it yet category. I hope that your
curiosity gets the best of you
and you research what I’m talking about. If you do know the importance you may
want to help out or attend this years Growing Connections 2005 Organic
Harvest Festival
put on by the local chapter of Healthy Traditions
Network, (www.htnetwork.org). Many of us from the studio helped and took part ie
festival and had a great time. This years festival is on September 24 from
9:30am-6:00PM. Please visit the site to learn more and sign up to volunteer.
Eating good wholesome foods is just as important to
your health as exercise, breathing, and meditation. Organic foods are not only
better for you they taste better.
Wellness is complicated and a good diet isn’t complete without good organically
grown fruits and v egetables.
Learn to get away from the fake processed foods that come in a box . Team up
with a local farmer or join a CSA and mafference. Work to get back to the source
of sacred foods.
Namasté,
Jim
Yoga Garden
Thanks to those volunteering to provide herbs, flowers, and vegetables our
yoga garden is taking shape. We still have room to plant more so if you have
something you would like to see growing here please bring it by. Some of the
plantings are very small and unmarked so please view the garden from the grass
until everything takes and gets big.
Yoga For Peace
The event planning for Yoga 4 Peace is coming along very well. We have our
main guests confirmed for the event and we are signing up vendors to
participate. If you or someone you know might be interested in a table /booth
space please let us know 734-282-9642. We are expecting between 200-400 people
all told and to see you there. If anyone would be interested in organizing some
kids activities during the event please let us know. Don’t forget to mark your
calendar for August 13 and join us at Ford Field in Dearborn. This is our Yoga
in the Park for this year so you won’t want to miss it. We do have flyers
available at the studio so if you know any place that would be a good place to
hang one we would appreciate your help.
