Creating Stickiness
In 1988 soon after the birth of my first daughter I was driving away from the
hospital as proud a parent as can be. My
emotions continued to well and I
was soon flooded with the bliss of feeling total unconditional love in my heart
that spilled over to all humanity. Never before had I felt anything so powerful
and so surreal as total love for all beings.
This past summer I experienced a lightening bolt of energy
rise up my spine, through the crown of my head, and shoot out my arms which
totally floored me again creating surrealness and leaving me with a deep feeling
of love, oneness, and effortlessness.
People have written about profound experiences for thousands
of years and you probably have your own to share. Experiences like these expose
a greater connection to our source of existence, deepen our faith, and create
change within us. Unfortunately, within weeks, days, and sometimes hours the
feelings tend to slowly fade away.
But what if we want to stay connected to the source of this
goodness within. How do we create the stickiness? The Bible tells a story of
Saul who became Paul committing the rest of his life, all his actions, for God
after his experience. In the Bhagavad-Gita Krishna says to think of him always,
to see the divine in all beings, and perform all actions for him. There is no
complicated secrete here. No difficult ceremony or arduous task. The answer has
been given. All we have to do is strengthen our will and stick to the plan.
Think of the source always, see it in others, and do everything we do for the
source.
I write this for you as well as myself as I work to create
stickiness in my life.
Peace and Love,

Karma Yoga News
*****************************************
This month is appropriately about LOVE. We have been
doing a lot of things in the past for others who need a little extra help (Thank
You!). This month we’re going to switch gears and do something for ourselves as
well some little ones.
I’d like us all to do 2 things: Wear Red Day, February 2nd
in support of heart disease www.goredforwomen.org . Did you know that heart
disease is the #1 killer of American women? Please go to the above link for more
information on how you can take better care of your heart and bodies and what
the American Heart Association (A non-profit organization founded
in 1924) is doing for all people. Second, Feb 7th – 14th
is Congenital Heart Defect Awareness week in Michigan. Did you know that 32,000
babies are born with a heart defect, that’s 1 in 150 a year in the United
States? Some defects go undetected until the child is born or until they are an
adult. There is a wonderful non-profit organization in Southeast Michigan that
helps families with children who have heart defects. Hearts of Hope make care
packages and fill them with toys, activities and toiletries for the families
during their many stays at the hospital. www.heartsofhopemi.org Please bring the
following new and travel size items to Rising Sun prior to February 30th:
·
Books
·
Stickers
·
Small board games
·
Coloring Books
·
Crayons/Markers
·
Hand sanitizer
·
Hand lotion
·
Eye drops
·
Kleenex/ tissue
·
Toothpaste/brushes
Thank you for you continued support. Keep checking your Karma
Yoga news letter for some exciting events in the next few months that will
benefit the young and the young at heart.
Just For Kids:
It may be cold out side but at least we have snow! Have a hot
cocoa or tea party in a snow fort! Go for a nature walk and look for cardinals
or squirrel nests and see how the animals live during the winter. Or take a kids
yoga class with Rising Suns very own Vanessa Morse. It’ll be good for your heart
and body!

Testimonial:
I want to take a moment to share
some of the positive changes in my life since first attending yoga class. I
have always been pretty laid back but now there is a calmness that
encompasses my entire life. Yoga helps put things in clearer perspective and
priority. I function with observance, awareness, clearer thought, and never
react out of panic or fear. I react differently in stressful situations. I
am the calming influence amongst the stressed and we get problems resolved
faster because of it. Always completely relaxed (great place to be!) Others
have noticed the change and it draws them closer.
Spiritually my hunger to serve and give back has
increased ten fold. I already had a sporadic nursing home music ministry,
but now it has become a passion. The music sounds better, the connections
with the residents is so much richer, the love that flows in that time is
amazing. I'm working on expanding it. Occasionally Micha has me play at the
end of a lesson, it's been received well. Its very rewarding to be able to
give back a little to her practice, and maybe contribute a bit to others
growth.
Physically the transformation has been amazing. An old
jock,(baseball, basketball, football) I have old jock aches and pains. I
have worked out for years but nothing like this. (I Still play racquetball,
tennis, bicycle and lift weights) I had no idea what to expect , in fact I
was a little surprised when the sweat started pouring. Yoga has improved all
my other activities. I am faster, more flexible, stronger, and more focused.
I try not to be married to the scale but I was curious because my clothes
fit so differently. I have dropped 18 pounds since the last time I weighed
(about 3 months ago) and my only new activity is yoga.
Classes are fun and challenging. I
take beginners and a few intermediate classes and love the challenging
workout. Micha's classes are all fun, centering, and challenging. (she's the
best!!) I've been fatigued to the point of failure on many occasions, (and
still can't stand on my head!!) but the growth process is it's own reward. I
love it!!
It didn't take long for the positive
effects to be part of my routine. I breath deeper and more evenly throughout
the day, occasionally stretch a big full stretch and relax completely for a
moment. I can honestly say the improvements in my life are more than i could
have ever imagined!
Thanks so much, your school is
amazing. I felt comfortable from the first day. great atmosphere, very warm
and friendly and your staff rocks!

Book Study : Love Without Conditions:
Reflections of the Christ Mind by Paul Ferinni.
When: Saturdays 6pm to 8pm (starting March 3rd)
Purchase: book at Rising Sun Yoga
Contact: Nancy for details @ 734-285-6146
Book Summary: We all know Jesus's commandment: Love your neighbors as you
love yourself. But while we are all taught this, we are often not taught WHY
we should love our neighbor as ourself, or HOW to love our neighbors as
ourself. Most of us don't even love ourselves. Collectively, we don't do a
good job of loving others unconditionally, because we aren't taught to love
ourselves unconditionally.
The things that get in the way, are guilt/blame, fear, projection,
unforgiveness, and judgment. We use these against ourselves as much as we do
others When we learn that our self worth is not based on how others respond
to us, because we are inherently valuable just the way we are, then we learn
to value ourselves. When we love ourselves unconditionally, this in turn
naturally leads to compassion for others and the ability to remove our
"conditions" that prevent us from loving them.
This book teaches that we choose our experiences in our life by how we
choose to act or react, moment by moment. There is a profound cause and
effect between our thoughts/beliefs and our moods and relationships. How you
interpret your experience is important. Thoughts DO create experience. When
you don't understand someone's behavior, do you choose the worst possible
explanation? Or do you allow yourself to remain open to other possible
explanations or points of view? Our interpretations are often false. There
is a wonderful prayer in the book which addresses this:
"Father, I am willing to change my mind about this situation. Please help me
see this not through the eyes of fear, but as you see it. Help me see this
with equal love for myself and others."
This book states that healing is your only purpose here. The shift from
judgment to acceptance is the essence of healing. "Love Without Conditions"
will cause you to undeniably see yourself and where you need to do the work.
It will then guide you to do the work while supporting you. As you work on
yourself from within, you will naturally begin to feel understanding and
compassion for your neighbors in their struggle to do the same. We are all
in this together. We are all one. |

Yoga For Stiff People
Presented by:
Mike Goldfield
Mike
has a varied background in yoga. He received teacher training in Ashtanga
Yoga (with Richard Freeman), Anusara Yoga (with John Friend), and trained
extensively in Iyengar Yoga, from which he draws primarily for adjustments,
alignment, and modifications of poses. Mike considers this the tradition in
which he works. His style is playfulness, humility, attention to details of
alignment, and compassion for the student.
Yoga provides numerous benefits for those who practice it. Yet many of us
who see ourselves as stiff have difficulties experiencing the joys of yoga.
In this series, Mike will lead participants in an exploration of
various postures, sequences, and modifications (including the use of a wide
variety of
props) to address common areas of limitation in ways that are safe and
helpful, rather than aggressive and self-abusive. This approach will allow
students to find benefits and joy in their practice no matter what their
level of flexibility. Open to Students of all levels.

April 1 Sun. 9:30 –11:30 Shoulders and Upper Back

Blue Ice Pure Cod Liver Oil

Grandma knew what she was doing by giving us cod live oil. It is high
in vitamin A and D plus Omega 3 oils. The Blue Ice brand is the purist and
highest vitamin content we’ve found.
“Vitamin D may be one of the most fundamentally important
building blocks available to us for creating and sustaining vibrant health.
In addition to its classically understood role in bone formation and calcium
absorption, research has uncovered myriad roles for vitamin D, ranging from
increasing muscular coordination to preventing cancer, heart disease,
autoimmune diseases and radiation-induced tissue damage. Yet vitamin D is
also considered to be "the most toxic of all vitamins..", so don’t over do
it. (From Green Pasture’s Website) For more information visit
www.greenpasture.org and
www.westonaprice.org.
Afraid of the fishy taste, try the mint or cinnamon flavor
and fear no more.
We are also carrying Blue Ice Gold Therapeutics, a blend of high vitamin
cod liver oil-- 5000IU's vitamin A, 500IU's vitamin D -- plus 100mg of high
vitamin butter oil in each dose.
Without vitamin A & D our bodies don’t absorb minerals

Michigan
Harvest
is a proprietary blend of
sweet cherry, blackberry, blueberry and apple chosen to maximize the ORAC* score while producing a flavor filled juice drink boost. Most high
antioxidant drinks use fruits from far away places in an attempt to maximize
antioxidant score. At Sol Resource we created
a high antioxidant drink made with fruits grown right here in the state of
Michigan. A single ounce of Michigan Harvest provides you with half of your
daily recommended antioxidant intake.
*ORAC
(Oxygen Radical
Absorption Capacity) measures the antioxidant activity of a substance.
Cherry Harvest
American Premium Blends
is
proud to present Cherry Harvest. Cherry harvest is a combination of
tart and sweet cherry blended in such a way to maximize benefits while
providing a surprisingly refreshing taste. Cherry Harvest is all natural
with no preservatives, added sugar or color. This is cherry juice the way
nature intended delicious and nutritious. Tart and sweet cherry juice are
both excellent sources of anthocyanins, a family of antioxidants that give
cherries their bright color but also may play a critically important role in
reducing inflammation, promoting joint health and reducing the symptoms of
gout and arthritis. So try an ounce of Cherry Harvest your body will thank
you for it.
Tart Cherry Harvest
Michigan is the top tart cherry producer in the United States harvesting
75% of the nation’s tart cherry crop. These cherries do not normally make it
to your local supermarket, mostly because the tart cherry crop is sent for
processing into jams, jellies, pie filling and of course tart cherry juice
concentrate. Scientific research suggests that enjoying a shot of tart
cherry juice concentrate might help defuse arthritis pain. It is this
overwhelming scientific evidence that compelled us at American Premium
Blends to create Tart Cherry Harvest, our own proprietary blend
of tart cherry juice that promotes the health benefits of tart cherry juice.
Samples are available at the studio, try a bottle the
taste is great.
