Responsibility does not only lie with the leaders of our countries or with those who have been appointed or elected to do a particular job. It lies with each of us individually. Peace, for example, starts within each one of us. When we have inner peace, we can be at peace with those around us. The Dalai Lama

How Bad Do You Want It?

Following the destruction of the World Trade Center, through the start of wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and to date the world has rallied for peace in greater numbers than any time in history. The press reports that the majority of people in America now support the withdraw of troops from Iraq. Peace movements are building with intensity and strategy like never before. Like minds are coming together and expressing commonalities in values for life and spiritual principles that transcend race, religion, and greed. People want peace and they are letting it be known.

One of my favorite movie quotes comes from the Spiderman movie, “with power comes great responsibility.” With millions of people joining together for a cause they hold great power thus giving each individual an equally great responsibility. If it is peace that we want we must cultivate peace in our minds.

Try this little test. Take a moment to be aware of your thoughts as you slowly read these words: enemy, terrorist, world leader, villain, oppressor, war president. Now reflect on what kind of thoughts came to your mind? It’s ironic, but many people that claim to want an end to war, that want peace, hold thoughts of others that include anger, rage, hate, or despicability. To cultivate peace on the planet we must first cultivate peace within. Our negative thoughts toward others lead us away from peace and give power to those that hate and fear.

Please take a moment to reread that list above slowly taking note of anyone that comes to mind and pausing to send them thoughts of love and light. If we want peace it is our responsibility to create peace in our minds. We must be diligent in removing negative thoughts of one another. If you believe we are all one then you must treat all with love in action, thought, and deed. It is not enough to say that we want peace, each of us must work to create peace in our minds, as our minds collectively align towards peace mass consciousness will manifest. Paradigm shifts happen when great numbers think the same way.

So many people coming together for a common cause provides a great opportunity for us to create a shift in consciousness, but we must hold all in love. Love is what will lead the way to our evolution. Love is the answer. How bad do you want it?

Peace and Love to all,

Jim

What are We Doing?

We want to be healthier. We practice yoga to build our immune system, strengthen our bodies, build strength, balance, and learn to manage stress. For some it is just for fitness sake and for others it is a vital piece of the puzzle necessary for spiritual development. We learn to breath better, meditate, and select a diet that is healthy. We don’t find information and studies that contradict the benefits of a safe yoga practice, breathing, or meditation. But there is growing information that what we think is a healthy diet is not. Are you eating or medicating to control your cholesterol? Do you eat products labeled healthy/natural. Are you eating soy products in place of meat? Are you eating food from a box, can, or some other processed food? Are you eating or drinking “diet” products or tap water? You might want to do a little research.

We have all heard stories of people in this country prosecuted for adding small amounts of poison to food in an attempt to make another sick or to kill them. Rightly so this should be illegal. Is it any different if food companies or restaurants use products that do the same thing? If you ‘ve seen the movie Super Size Me than you know that fast food is basically poison and if you eat enough of it you will get sick and possibly die. If you’ve researched high fructose corn syrup from credible sources you know that it is a dangerous product and should be avoided.

See: westonaprice.org/modernfood/highfructose.html “The Double Danger of High Fructose Corn Syrup.” Similar articles warning of High Fructose Corn Syrup have also appeared in the Washington Post and Organic Style Magazine. So what is different between and individual giving another person something that makes them sick and a corporation that sells and individual something marketed as healthy?

High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) is the major ingredient in soda pop and we have added vending machines in schools through out the country for our children to consume. Over 90% of the products in the grocery stores include HFCS. Sure it is less expensive than sugar and corporations producing in are reaping huge profits. Sure the pharmaceutical companies are benefiting from the increase in diabetes and heart disease. The farmers that grow the genetically modified corn (officially registered as a pesticide) that our tax dollars are subsidizing are insured a market. And yes people in the know understand that the FDA has been bought out to okay less than healthy standards for processing the food we eat. Why?

Don’t get me wrong it isn’t just HFCS there are many things added to our food, and food and medical myths that are robbing this country of it’s health. Why?

We have grown away from our traditional food sources and substituted them with artificial products that are bodies don’t understand how to process and are slowly sickened by. This infrastructure of food production is so rooted that it is almost impossible to eat real food. Why worry about nuclear proliferation, terrorism, or global warming, when we can just poison ourselves into extinction? I apologize for sounding so alarming and bleak, but what are we doing?

I hope you will join us on September 24th at the Conference & Organic Harvest Festival. We need to know, we need to share information, and we need to support those that produce sacred foods and eat them. Please visit www.htnetwork.org/growingconnections.html for more information. Learn about and join a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) in your area.

Ram Das: Fierce Grace

A hippie guru learns to live with the challenges of old age

This is a documentary about the legendary Harvard professor, Richard Albert, who experimented with LSD in the 60s, then went to India, changed his name to Ram Das, and came back to become a guru for the hippie generation. Now he's about 70, and, due to a stroke he suffered in 1997, is wheelchair bound. "I never expected old age to be like this," he says with difficulty, as his speech is slow now as he struggles to find the right words. The camera takes us right with him on his daily routine. Aides help him dress and drive him to his many therapy appointments and we are witness to his acupuncture as well as speech and physical therapy sessions. Touching all your emotions and enlightening.
