Spring Into Action
Recently friends loaned us a children's
animated movie with subtitles about the Monkey God Hanuman. Hanuman is found
in the Hindu religion, and the movie is colorfully animated playfully
illustrated and kids love it. Frankly, I have to admit that I did too. The
baby hanuman is certainly adorable with amazing powers complete with great
songs that together tell a story once passed mouth to mouth for thousands of
years. Yoga is often thought to be based in the Hindu religion, however it
is really found in all religions, often under many different names.
Back to the movie, which
begins with hanuman as an adorably loveable monkey boy baby. The gist is a
battle over good and evil, which mirrors the internal struggle and the
outward manifestations of this struggle. Hanuman was born with godlike
powers flying through the sky while continually completing more amazing
displays of strength and agility as he grows.
His good nature was incarnated to defeat
evil forces. Encouraging subtitles read, "Truth always wins." I find
these words comforting, "Truth always wins." In reality I don’t think
anyone is evil, sometimes people just listen to their own internal dialog
gone wrong.
|
Modern day battles seem to have truth up against the ropes
and I worry about it being beat down so bad that it doesn't have the strength to
get back up. Today we have big money companies lobbying to pass laws that side
on producing food that is less then wholesome, natural, and possible bad side
effects. There is a bill H.R. Bill 4167, passed in the House and headed for the
Senate that legalizes less truth in labeling of our foods. According to the
Organic Consumers Association, “This blatantly anti-consumer Bill would
eliminate over 200 state food safety labeling laws.”
_____________________
“You might not be a Hanuman with super human powers, but you do have certain
god given talents and strengths that you could use to fight for our planet and
our food source before it is too late.” _____________________
If this passes
we may never know the truth about what we are buying to eat. Food lobbyists are
also working to make it illegal to discuss truths and traditions about food
without a license. Imagine not being able to tell your neighbors that organic
blueberries are better for them than genetically modified preservative laden
fungicide sprayed processed ones. During the
dust bowel days, after we cut down all the trees and tilled all the land in the
Great
Plains, Mother Nature created dust storms that wiped out life and dumped many
feet of dust onto towns like massive snowstorms of dirt. You’d think we’d have
learned then.
|
The
farming and distribution methods favored in America increase the green house
gasses and global warming while good biodynamic farming practices work to
reduce them. We haven’t learned and now we face catastrophic storms with
greater magnitude, intensity, and frequency our scientist tell us. Global
warming threatens life as we know it. It is time for each of us to make a
difference on this planet. You might not be a Hanuman with super human
powers, but you do have certain god given talents and strengths that you
could use to fight for our planet and our food source before it is too late.
Visit the Organic Consumers Associations website
www.organicconsumers.org
to learn more about what is happening around you. You can also help support
the one local certified organic farm in the area, Lakeplain Prairie Farm,
learn how by visiting
www.lakeplaincsa.com. All the Gods
fought for good. If you know the truth you know it’s your duty too.
The fight begins internally conquering greed, lying,
stealing or in short living the Yamas and Niyamas, which Yoga teaches.
Peacefully and with love, we can make a difference. Hatred and violence no
longer serve the world. More than ever we need to realize that were are all
one and put aside our difference and work together to take care of each
other, our planet and it’s creatures. It is time for you to spring into
action.
Peace and Love,
Jim |

Spring Cleaning
Detoxification the Ayurvedic Way
Saturday April 8, 2005 1-3pm
Please call to reserve a space as seating is limited $10
Ayurveda is the traditional holistic healthcare system of
India. Like Yoga, Ayurveda is over 5000 years old and Yoga’s sister science.
Our bodies accumulate toxins due to stress, poor diet,
poor eating habits, and from the environment. Detoxification is the removal
of these toxins. Detoxifying the Ayurvedic way is not a procedure, it is a
process. Spring is the ideal time for internal cleansing, refreshing the
body and renewing the spirit. You are warmly invited to attend this workshop
where you will learn your primary nature or “Dosha,” any Doshic imbalance
that needs to be addressed, and how you can personalize this process to
achieve the maximum benefit and create your very own purification program.

Colon Hydrotherapy/Colonics
~Compassionate Health Care~
presented by Nancy Gurney
*I-ACT Certified Colon Hydrotherapist
Medical research statistics reveal that a high number of
people are affected with poor digestion and intestinal disorders. Sadly,
many people suffer silently and unnecessarily and seek relief from their
symptoms.
Pharmaceutical drugs used for short-term results are
okay, but, are they an effective long-term solution, or do they act as band
aids covering up a gaping wound?
I am convinced through my training and certification that
colons will be imbalanced when we eat unnatural and processed food and in
return they simply experience unnatural and processed states of being, such
as Constipation, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Candida, and Colon Cancer
to name a few.
Are you willing to learn about the underlying causes of
poor digestion and intestinal disorders in the most gentle way possible? If
so, then I invite you to come hear my presentation on the many benefits of
Colon Hydrotherapy/Colonics. Choose to participate in a higher quality of
life, not only for your benefit, but for those you share your life with.
Saturday, April 29th, 2006 @ 1:00—3:00 pm
Cost: $7.00

Have you ever wondered why so many people are eating "healthier" but are
still dying of the same diseases? It is because the "healthier" diets they
are eating are not healthy. Scientific research is being ignored. Learn

Detroit Day On
Saturday March 18th, Kristy, Melissa, and Shawn delivered tons of
donated goods to the homeless in Detroit.
The trio found a homeless shelter located at 2nd and Martin
Luther King, Jr. Blvd. There were between 45 and 50 people who received new
socks, new underwear, hygiene products, blankets, jackets, food, and
clothes. Thanks to all those donated, our on-site yogini’s report that the
people who got the goodies were thrilled to have others think of them. Our
next “Detroit Day” is scheduled for Friday April 14th. Please
continue to donate generously; we will have boxes out at the studio to drop
off your contributions. Talk to Shawn or Kristy if you want to help out
during the distribution.
Easter Holiday Meals
RSY Karma Yoga’s first official attempt to raise money
for a great cause in March was a resounding success. On March 30th,
Lisa presented The Senior Alliance with $210 collected through the
month—each $5 donation purchases one home delivered meal to a homebound
senior on Easter Sunday. Bill Campbell of TSA was thrilled and thinks RSY
people are great—he’s even come to a class or two to share in our energy and
spirit.
April’s Activity!!
We will be returning (at the special invitation of the
Gleaners staff who really enjoyed our yogic energy) to the Gleaners
Community Food Bank Taylor Distribution Center to package donated food from
huge pallets into smaller boxes. We will be there on Saturday, April 15th
from 1 pm to 3 pm. Sign up on the sheet at the studio by the “help wanted”
sign. Children are welcome for this activity.
Upcoming plans…
One of May’s Karma Yoga opportunities again will center
around collecting funds—this time for The Heifer Project, which supplies
agricultural animals to families in underdeveloped countries to help them
create sustainable food production to support themselves both with things to
eat and an income. Our dollars will go toward purchases of hives of bees.
Stay tuned for more details. Coming later this year…we’ll organize a team of
walkers for AIDS Walk. |
